Single Fiber EMG
What Is Single Fibre EMG
Single Fibre EMG stands for Single Fibre Electromyography, and it’s a very sensitive measurement of the neuromuscular junction’s function (the connection between the muscle and the nerve).
Procedure for a Single Fibre EMG Test
There is no need to prepare for the test in advance.
A Consultant Neurophysiologist will conduct the Single Fibre EMG test, which may take up to one hour. To begin, you will be asked some questions about your medical history (namely, your symptoms and medications), and the test will be thoroughly described. You will be requested to lay down and relax throughout the test, and a very tiny needle electrode will be inserted into the muscle in your forehead above your eyebrow. The needle electrode will remain in place during the test to capture muscle activation.
When the Single Fibre EMG test is completed, You may go home and resume your regular routine once the Single Fibre EMG test is completed.
What Is the Purpose of Single Fibre EMG?
To diagnose neuromuscular junctional defects.
